Assessment Is Wicked Good #CurriculumThatCounts
GEAR represents Glendale Community College's commitment to academic and cocurricular assessment, framed within the larger context of why and how we serve students:
As members of a higher education community, we are here to support students in achieving their Goal for coming to GCC, the receipt of a certificate or degree, transfer to a four-year university, or career advancement.
Learning occurs in two ways: through Engagement in student support activities and programs and through the Academic courses and degree programs in which students are enrolled. In all these spaces, students are advancing their development of the GCC institutional outcomes.
If we succeed, students can showcase on their Resume the marketable and life skills they developed at GCC that employers, universities, and graduate programs look for in successful candidates.
In order to serve our students through assessment, each employee is encouraged to "Get Your Assess in GEAR!"
Initially suggested as a joke during an assessmint slogan-writing task, we realized that assessment can be serious and fun at the same time. Our goal is for faculty and staff to engage in conversation and collaboration around student learning. Those interactions should not just result in the strengthening of student learning, but also serve as a source of energy and excitement about our mission as an institution of higher education.
