I enjoy hearing from you. No question or concern is too small, and there's no such thing as a "stupid question." Communication is key to your success in this (and all) class! I will make important announcements using email, announcements posted on our course Canvas homepage, as well as at each class meeting. Try to stay up to date with my announcements, as they might contain hints or clarifications for assignments, or other information you need about the week. Be sure to activate your Los Rios gmail account and/or forward it to an account you check regularly! (Don't know how to do that? Check this out: Los Rios Gmail information) You can contact me through the Canvas email tool, or send an email to paskeya@crc.losrios.edu. We can also set up a Zoom chat or phone call, if you would prefer to communicate in "real-time".
I am usually pretty speedy with my replies, but please allow me 24 hours before following up with mw again. Also, if you reach out on a Friday-Sunday, please don't be surprised if I am a little slower to respond, and that you don't get a reply until Monday.
My student hours are:
Monday/Wednesday 10:30am-12pm and Monday/Wednesday 1:30-2:00pm in my on-campus office, SOC #135 (Southeast Office Complex)
Tuesday 9-10:00am by email and/or by Zoom or phone appointment.
Online courses turn the idea of attendance on its head. Online, you can "attend" class in your pajamas at 2 am in the morning, or sitting by the pool on a sunny day. Attendance is not marked by your body being in a class, but rather by your participation within the class activities.
Here's the brief "rules" we'll follow to guide participation:
Our modules officially open on Mondays (each module is one week long). Schedule 1 hour each Monday to log in, review the module and assignments, take note of what is due, and plan your week.
Check-in and interact in the course as often as you need to complete course reading and activities.
Participate in all discussions--it is recommended that you make your initial reply by Thursday, and that you respond to your classmates' posts over the weekend.
If you know you will be away from the course for more than a few days, connect with us in advance so we are aware of your plans.
Every assignment has a due date, rubric, and a deadline for submissions. Students are expected to submit assignments on or before the assigned due date, which, in turn, allows me time to review your work and provide meaningful feedback. Due dates have been designed in the course to ensure time is provided to allow you to produce your best work.
Because time management is challenging, deadlines might not be met. But, you’re in luck. If you recognize a due date might be a problem, advocate for your success by following these steps:

Often referred to as "netiquette," here is a gentle reminder of the interaction practices and rules we'll follow in all our interactions in this course.
If you ever feel that someone is not following these rules, please send an email to either of both of us using the Canvas Inbox and describe your concerns.
