My goal for all of you is to pass this course, and I'm here and available to help you do that! If something should come up, unexpectedly, that should impact your commitment to this course, please contact me as soon as possible, so we can work on an alternative strategy for you to complete the course.
We have the best of intentions to do well at everything, but sometimes life gets in the way. The options listed below can be used to make up low scores on quizzes, no questions asked or proof needed.
Three chances to take each of the Review Quizzes (there are 6 total, scheduled approximately every 2-3 weeks). I’ll keep only the highest score for each quiz.
5 Freebie discussion boards! Something come up and you don't have time to post? No worries-- you get 5 free passes, no reason or advance approval (or permission) needed. There are 15 weeks of discussion board opportunities, but you only need to post in 10 weeks worth (following all posting requirements) to earn full credit. You can do all 15, but only your top 10 scores will count.
Complete the CRC College and Life Skills Course (more details here) and REPLACE your lowest Review Quiz grade with a 100% score!!
Is there ever the opportunity for a Third Chance? Yes, sometimes. If something arises, send me an email so we can discuss a plan of action.
For each assignment, I recommend that you review the rubric before completing it and then again before submitting it to ensure you've addressed all the required criteria.
You submit an assignment by the due date.
I will review your submission against the rubric criteria and grade the assignment, completing both the grading rubric and providing additional feedback, if necessary.
If your work is submitted on time, I'll make every effort to review and comment on the work within 1 week of submission. I also encourage you to schedule a conference call with me to discuss your grade at any point.
Your final grade will be determined by your total number of points earned in the following categories.
6 Quizzes and a Syllabus quiz
3 Collaborative Assignments
2 Short Individual Assignments
10 weeks of discussion board posts and responses
Quizzes (completed on Canvas) are held approximately every 2-3 weeks, and will cover all the content presented during that time period. There are 30 multiple choice questions, and you will have 60 minutes to complete each quiz. You'll get three attempts at each quiz, and I'll only keep your highest score!
Collaborative assignments will have you working with classmates to produce a collective answer to a problem or task. Group membership may change, based on feedback of how well the group worked together.
Assignments will ask you to think through some of the content we have learned about, in a deeper and applied way.
Discussion boards will give you a chance to explore some of the content and activities from the textbook, in a fun discussion format with your classmates. The weekly discussion requirement includes both an original authored by you, as well as a response to a classmate's post. Additionally, there is a word minimum (100 words) in all posts, including replies to classmates.
In borderline cases (those within 2% of the next grade category), I will take into account improvement over the semester and completion of all assignments. Being within 2% of the next grade category does not guarantee an automatic grade increase (especially if students are missing major assignments or have received a zero for cheating or plagiarism).
90-100 % = A
80-89 % = B
70-79 % = C
60-69 % = D
Below 59% = F
To help reduce that stress and improve the likelihood of completing the modules in our course successfully, here are some quick tips:
Allow yourself the time and space you need to do your best work.
Don't procrastinate.
If you get stuck on an assignment, reach out to me, Megan (our Anthro IA) or one of your peers. I welcome your questions and I am happy to help you think through your ideas so you can successfully complete an assignment.
