What is the Zones of Regulation

Curriculum?

A curriculum designed by Leah Kuypers, a licensed occupational therapist, to help students gain skills in self-regulation. Self-regulation is the ability to effectively manage and respond to an emotional experience. Students learn to recognize when they are in different zones, and learn strategies to change or stay in the zone they are in.


Why is it Important?



  • To help students identify and label their feelings

  • To help students recognize whether their emotional response is appropriate to the situation

  • To teach efficient coping and self-regulation strategies

  • There are no BAD emotions. All emotions can be experienced at different times
