Why Flexible Learning Days?
Flexible learning days are intended to counter the loss of instructional time resulting from school cancellations due to weather. The flex learning days will provide our district options to meet statutory regulations related to student instructional time besides making up school days for weather related cancellations.
Communication

- The flex learning day plan will be communicated on an annual basis prior to the start of the school year to families of Osseo Area Schools
- Staff and families will be notified that a weather related cancelation day is a flex learning day at least two hours prior to the start of the normal school day utilizing our normal weather cancelation communication protocols
Student/ Family Logistics
Student/ Family Logistics
- Students will be able to access digital lessons in Seesaw (Grades K-5) or Schoology (grades 6-12) by 9:00am
- Students must check in to each of their scheduled classes through Seesaw or Schoology for attendance prior to the end of the cancelled day
- Students who are unable to attend the flex learning day should follow the same attendance process as they would for a normal school day by contacting the attendance office with their absence reason.
- Students/ Families will have access to their teacher online and phone during the teachers designated office hours for any questions related to the flex learning lesson. These office hours will be provided to students in Seesaw or Schoology and be between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm

- Lessons are connected to current standards that students are learning
- Lessons include a task for students to complete (digital discussion, quiz, assignment, etc.)
- Individual lesson accommodations should be worked out between the students and their teachers
Teacher Logistics

- The school schedule for the flex learning day will be the same schedule as if school was in session
- Teachers must post lessons with digital resources/ activities in Seesaw or Schoology by 9:00am
- Teachers must define a minimum of two office hours between 9:00am and 3:00pm
- During the defined office hours teachers must be available by phone and electronic communication to connect with students and parents for support specific to the lesson
- Teachers must take attendance of participation on the flex learning day
- Teachers must enter attendance into Synergy.
- Teachers will have access to their building sites if they choose to come in
Training/ Other
Training/ Other
- Training will be provided to teachers on Google Meet for the purpose of phone contact during office hours
- Training will be provided to teachers on how to collect attendance
- Technical support staff will be available for remote support to staff and students on a flex learning day
