ACT Test Information - October 20

Tuesday, October 20, 2020 will be the district testing day for the ACT (American College Test) in English, mathematics, reading, science and writing for grade 12 students. DLA students have the opportunity to take the ACT in-person at their home high school. Students will be required to socially distance and wear a mask while in the school. Students will be required to be at the school ready to test at the regular school start time and can expect to complete testing in the early afternoon.

Your parent/guardian will receive information through an email and phone message today about this opportunity for you to take the ACT on October 20. Students are encouraged to discuss this with their parent/guardian prior to indicating if you will participate or not, and if you will need district transportation on test day. You are required to REGISTER by midnight on Monday, October 5. You will be given one-time access to register through this link. A reminder email will be sent daily through October 5 until you indicate if you will participate in the ACT or not.

Grade 12 students will have the opportunity to take the ACT in April of 2021 with grade 11 students if they choose not to participate this October.

Instructional Program

Students at the high school level will receive similar academic programming as their peers attending physical high schools, but through a virtual environment. The high school programing will focus on core subject areas and graduation requirements. Not all elective classes (ex: physical education, art, technology education, advanced placement, music, etc.) may be offered, and some elective classes may be modified in order to create virtual learning opportunities.

Learning will occur through a blend of daily live virtual sessions, pre-recorded video tutorials, and independent learning activities. Students and teachers will engage in learning through the use of Schoology. Learning activities will be aligned to the academic standards for each subject area. The student schedule will run on an alternating block where students will attend live sessions with their teachers scheduled that day and complete independent work for non-scheduled classes. Friday's are designated as an academic support day where students may be scheduled into academic interventions, be scheduled into specialized support services, have access to additional live course supports, and have independent learning activities for each course.

Sample Weekly Schedule

Attendance

Students are expected to attend/ check-in to all of their trimester classes each school day. Teachers will take daily attendance on Synergy. State and School Board policies regarding attendance apply to students enrolled in this program. Attendance counts as daily engagement with the student in each class, even the asynchronous classes. This may look like checking in on Schoology, turning in an assignment, presence at live session, and/ or individual communication with each teacher.

Students who are unable to attend school must notify the Distance Learning Academy of the absence by calling 763-391-8670 . Unaccounted for absences will be marked as unexcused.
