Updated August 2026: 

Materials for 6th Grade students ONLY for the start of school.  

All 6th graders:

1. Fill out the Band Parent Survey (scroll down). 

2. Download (scroll down) the First Five Notes, Rhythm Chart 1, and Rain Rain for your instrument so you are ready for the first days of school. 

   • If you feel confident about your first five notes, can count the rhythms on Chart 1, and play Rain Rain, you will have a great start to the year!

   • If you cannot do these tasks independently, please talk to a band teacher about moving to Beginning Band class. 

3. Turn in your pencils and kleenex on Back to School Night (listed on School Supply List).

4. Find your lesson book from last year!  It is probably Yellow and is called Musical Magic.  Some students used a red book called Tradition of Excellence. You will need this for the second day of band (Sept. 2 or 3).

5. On EduTrak - pay your 26-27 RMS 6th Grade Band Fee.  This fee covers your next lesson book, your Rhythm Busters workbook, and your Band Binder. 

   • If you took summer band lessons with Mr. Rinear, you might have received one of your books paid with this fee.  

6th graders who play School Instruments only:

1. Go to EduTrak to pay your annual rental fee.  Look for: 26-27 RMS Band Instrument Rental. Once this is complete, you can pick up your instrument (Allow 10-15 minutes for pick up). This is for tuba, baritone, and french horn

6th graders who play District Instruments (Band for All) only:

1. See a band teacher to pick up your instrument. A parent/guardian must sign for your instrument. 

Beginning Band Students only:

1. See a band teacher on August 20 or August 26 to choose your instrument! We will email out a Sign-Up Genius form in early August. After you have chosen, we will provide you with options for getting your instrument.

Rhythm Chart 1

We will use this Rhythm Chart during the first weeks of band.  You will receive a Chart to put into your Band Binder.

Rain Rain

This is one of the first songs we will play together as a band.  Find your instrument line, practice it, and be ready to play this during the first two weeks of school!
