This practical class focuses on preparing students for the ACT, post-secondary education, future careers, and financial success. Students engage in various research projects to help them determine post-secondary education options and career choices. Through the class, students have the opportunity to interact with people in different careers, job shadow a profession of their choice, learn about the interviewing and hiring process from actual hiring managers, participate in a mock interview, develop presentation and interpersonal skills, build a resume, begin preparing for the college application and scholarship process, and learn practical financial concepts. As part of the class, students are required to read and discuss the book Why Didn’t They Teach Me This in School? 99 Personal Money Management Principles to Live By. A significant amount of class time will also be dedicated to preparing for the ACT. Students will pretest to determine areas of weakness, learn tips and techniques that could increase their scores, and focus on areas of weakness through study and practice.
