Unit 2 Overview:
Decimals is Unit Two's major focus! In 4th grade, students learned what a decimal means and explored the tenths and hundredths place. In 5th grade, students will explore and learn all about the thousandths place. Throughout this unit students will learn various ways to represent a decimal using standard form, word form, picture form, and expanded form. See examples below. Students will also learn to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and round decimals. Students will only add and subtract decimals through the hundredths place. They will also be introduced to exponents and how to represent numbers in exponential form. The metric system of measurement is a part of this unit as well. Students will ALWAYS be given the conversions, they just have to choose how to solve the question asked.
