William Merritt

Mr. Merritt is thrilled to serve as Band Director for both Silver Lake Elementary and Townsend Elementary. A Delaware native, he first discovered his love for music as a trumpet student at Louis L. Redding Intermediate School. His very first band director was Ms. McGrath, and he is honored to now take the reins from her as he continues the proud tradition of music in the Appoquinimink School District.

Mr. Merritt earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Hampton University. Over the course of his career, he taught band and music for 11 years at Caravel Academy and 2 years at William Henry Middle School in the Capital School District. Now returning to the Appoquinimink School District, which nurtured his early musical journey, he is excited to share his enthusiasm for music with the next generation.

Mr. Merritt's commitment to helping young musicians grow is unwavering. He eagerly anticipates the opportunity to share his dedication to music with the students of Silver Lake and Townsend. He is committed to fostering welcoming and inspiring band programs at both schools.
