STAFL (Latin)

What is STAFL?

The Student Teaching Assistant of Foreign Language program (STAFL) was developed in an effort to allow students who have cycled out of the FL program, or who’s schedules cannot accommodate the allotted block for their level. This course provides students the opportunity to continue working in the atmosphere of their chosen language, remain immersed in the language, and allows the student to take on a leadership role in the class by assisting the teacher and being an active participant in student learning.

The STAFL program takes place inside of a first level classroom of the chosen language, and the student is expected to fully interact with the students of their assigned class and conduct themselves in a mature and professional manner, as they are seen as a role model and the go to person when the underclass students in the room need help.

If a student demonstrates during the year that they are not or cannot fulfill the expectations of the STAFL program, they will be removed and their block will be replaced with a study hall or other course as determined by the guidance office. It is a privilege to be chosen to participate in the STAFL program, and students are expected to conduct themselves in accordance to school rules as stated in the student handbook, as well as fulfill the Academic and Social Expectations put forth by Waterville Senior High School.

The student must keep record of any and all activity in the classroom, and at the end of the year must submit a comprehensive portfolio as their final exam grade.

WEBSITE – QUARTER 4

For your quarter 4 STAFL project you are to create a website using Google Sites for your class to use and access to study for their Final Exam, as well as be used as a resource for review for next year when they come back!

Requirements –

For each unit we have done, you will need to include a place for the following:

A page/tab for each unit we have done this year (level 1)/Lesson we have done this year (level 2)

Under each page/tab please include:

1. Each vocabulary list they have received this year for each unit. You can type the list yourself/copy and paste onto each page/subpage.

2. Each grammar point that has been covered this year with your class. You can type the list/chart yourself onto each page/subpage or copy and paste.

3. 2 links to online practice sources they can use to review each topic per unit, can be a vocab game online, jeopardy game, online quiz, etc.

4. 1 link to a video that covers the grammar topic/vocab topic for each unit. Videos can cover more than just the specific topic, you can site at what time the specific topic shows up in the video.

5. Links to practice exercises that we have done in class this year – I can email you the outlines/worksheets and you can upload them to the site or you can link them through google docs

You will have 6 weeks to complete the website – please try to have 1 topic completed for each week – including all of the 1-5 at the top of the page. Email me the link to your site and send me an email updating me as to your progress so I may check and grade you for it.

I can send you copies of any exercises we have done this year, or you can scan the ones you have to email and then upload to your site. Look back at your portfolio to see what you have copies of. If you need exercises/worksheets for any units let me know and I will see what I can send to you. If I do not have any you will need to create them yourself.
