Parent's Solidarity Fast for Gaza
CSJ is proud to join teams across Turtle Island in the Parents Solidarity Fast for Gaza, which began on August 10th in response to a call to action from Bisan and the Palestinian Youth Movement.
Parents, caregivers, and allies across the U.S. and beyond are participating in a collective fast to draw attention to Israel’s genocidal starvation of the people of Gaza.
We stand united in demanding:
Immediate and unrestricted humanitarian aid into Gaza
An immediate arms embargo on Israel
An end to the genocide
This fast is organized as a relay, with each team fasting for one week before “passing the fast” to the next. The fast will continue until these demands are met.
CSJ will take our turn in the relay from December 7–14. If you would like to join our team, please reply with your name and email. We will also create a Signal chat for participants to stay connected and support one another throughout the week, so drop your Signal number in your message if you’d like to join!
Each participant is welcome to fast for up to a week, or for at least one day, at a level that feels sustainable. Choose the fast that aligns with your health and capacity:
Level 1 – Luxury Fast: Eliminate luxury items like coffee, alcohol, sweets, processed foods, meat/animal products, and avoid eating out. Recommended duration: 7 days.
Level 2 – Daylight Fast: Fast from sun-up to sun-down.
Level 3 – 250 Calorie Fast: Limit intake to 250 calories per day.
Level 4 – Water-Only Fast: Consume only water. (Please review our health and safety toolkit before choosing this level.)
Your safety and wellbeing are paramount. Please consider any medical conditions and consult a healthcare provider before beginning any type of fast.
You are invited to join in whatever way feels right for you.

Roundtable Event: Safety in Documentation
Please join Antioch CSJ for this roundtable discussion about maintaining client safety in clinical documentation, led by doctoral student Elizabeth Holmes M.Ed., LMHC, NCC, CMHS (Counselor Education and Supervision at AUS). As of this discussion, there is limited peer reviewed research on the specifics around what clinical documentation "ought to" look like in our current sociopolitical climate. For the purposes of this roundtable, the term client-aware documentation will have the unified definition of "a documentation style aimed at including the minimum necessary information to meet a counselor's ethical and legal responsibilities while protecting the client's privacy."
With our questions and discussion, we will explore the purposes of clinical documentation and the ways we can support our clients with politicized identities while navigating multifaceted and conflicting systems. Bring your concerns, questions, and insights!
Foundational to the organizers' understanding and passion for this topic is the work done by Dr. Lisa Wenninger, PhD, MBA, and President at Resonant Equity. She has presented on this topic in-depth, creating the framework titled "Defensive Documentation". If this is a topic that is important to you, I heavily encourage you all to learn more by checking out her amazing training here: https://resonantequity.org/courses/defensive-documentation/
Anchoring Ourselves in Grief
On October 12th, Antioch students and faculty are invited to a one-hour gathering of grief as we enter the third year of witnessing the genocide in Gaza. Presented by Counselors for Social Justice and the Antioch Art Therapy Department, the gathering will begin with 20 minutes of gentle, guided art-making to help us ground, process what we hold inside, and create an anchor for hope, followed by 40 minutes of collective reflection and discussion.
Together, we will honor our grief, nurture resilience, and hold space for one another as we explore how, like our Palestinian kin, we can root ourselves in action toward liberation. Join us on Zoom for a space that welcomes both sorrow and hope as we transform loss into courage for collective healing and action.

Community Project: Postcarding for Voter Turnout
October - November 2024
Thank you to everyone who participated in the CSJ initiative to send voter encouragement postcards to contested districts in the country! We had 25 students and 1 faculty member participate, and altogether they sent out 2,300 postcards!! About half of the participants purchased their own stamps, so they contributed not just time but money too - and two very generous students donated actual cash to fund other students' ability to send postcards! Thanks to all who joined together in this effort.
