Learning Target: I can explain the interactions between the biotic and abiotic components in an ecosystem.
The ecosystem I chose to become an expert on is the Sagebrush Steppe of the Western United States because I love the foothills and wanted to learn more about this special ecosystem that exists in our backyard.
Fashion a Fish Project
Learning Target: I can describe how different adaptations help a fish survive.
The Green River Trout is a fish that works hard to protect its eggs and its spawning territory. This is a good adaptation for the fish because it means that their eggs are going to be protected by adults and will not be left vulnerable. The trout also has a darker colored green on its back, this dark green makes it more camouflaged in the pools of dark deep water. The trout's indented tail shape gives it more maneuverability than other tail shapes and helps propel it through the deeper water. The fish’s snake-like body helps it to move through the water easily as well as help move the fish through long distances. The Green River Trout has a hard plate on its lower jaw which contributes to why it is so good at scraping algae and food off of the bottom of the river. The habitat was created this way because in the dark deep water of the pools there will be lots of feeding opportunities for the trout, as well as the dark water will provide more camouflage for the fish with its darker colored back.
