Lesson Plan Overview: Book Club Diary/Scrapbook Project

For our next book club project, students will create a unique diary or scrapbook from the perspective of the main character(s) in their chosen book. This creative project will allow them to deeply engage with the story and explore the character’s thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a personal way. Students will use their imagination to craft a scrapbook or diary, incorporating hand-drawn illustrations, pictures, quotes, and scrapbook materials to bring their character's world to life. The possibilities are endless, from adding personal reflections and fictional diary entries to crafting visual elements that represent key moments or emotions in the story.

This project encourages students to think critically about character development, plot progression, and how to express narrative elements through art and design. It’s a fun, hands-on way to immerse themselves in their book while expressing their creativity. We can't wait to see the amazing diaries and scrapbooks that bring the stories to life in such a personal and creative way!

3rd Grade Choices

Eleven-year-old Melody is not like most people. She can’t walk. She can’t talk. She can’t write. All because she has cerebral palsy. But she also has a photographic memory; she can remember every detail of everything she has ever experienced. She’s the smartest kid in her whole school, but NO ONE knows it. As the weeks go on, Jett starts to get used to the unplugged life and even bonds with the other kids over their discovery of a baby-lizard-turned-pet, Needles. But he can’t help noticing that the adults at the Oasis are acting really strange.

Jett is determined to get to the bottom of things, but can he convince everybody that he is no longer just a spoiled brat who is making trouble?
