What is LINK

LINK internship is a three week long experience where junior students spend 90 hours exploring a career they are interested in. Students explore a wide range of careers from photography to welding. By the time they have completed their 3 week, 90 hour internship, they will have a good grasp on the inner workings of the profession they interned with as well as a better understanding of how the working world functions as a whole.  

My LINK Internship

For my LINK internship I choose to explore the world of interior design. I spent 2 of my 3 weeks in Durango working with a local design firm, Bohéme Design House. Throughout these two weeks I learned how to create digital mood boards, how to make 3D and 2D renderings, and how to use AI to create realistic renderings of spaces. The time I spent in Durango helped me to understand the initial steps of designing a home as well as the artistic freedom one has when designing a space. I worked on mood boards and AI renderings for a large project the firm is working on called Jackrabbit Trail. Along with this, I designed a bathroom for my house. I took dimensions and created a 2D and 3D model of the space. Then I created a concept presentation for the final look. I combined these two aspects in AI and created realistic renderings of possible looks for the bathroom. This work helped me get a great feel of what interior design really is. 

I also spent one week in Austin Texas. During this week, I shadowed an interior designer who works on large scale residential projects in the Austin area. I was able to visit a number of job sites and see projects in all different stages of completion. I was also able to visit a design firm that works with commercial spaces. My week in austin helped me learn about my taste in design, and what interior design looks like when projects are underway. I also was able to get a feel for a faster paced world compared to Durango
