Welcome to Anike Foundation's Illustration Team!
Our overall objective is to develop fully illustrated African folktales. The overall process is as follows:
I. Storyteller writes the story.
II. Illustrator develops illustrations for the story.
III. Illustrator merges illustrations with story to create a fully illustrated story.
The following are the guidelines for the Illustration Team:
1. The Illustration Team is responsible for illustrating stories submitted by our Folktales Team.
2. Because our folktales are based in Africa, we expect the characters in the illustrations to be authentic African characters. For examples of the characters in the stories we have published in the past, please visit:
For an example of a complete illustrated story, please visit "The Wise Physically Challenged."
3. The illustrator may work in whatever medium they prefer to develop the illustrations; however, regardless of whatever medium they choose, the finished illustrated story should be in jpeg (or png) format.
4. The preferred orientation for the finished illustrated story is portrait.
5. The deliverables for each story shall consist of the finished illustrated story as well as the individual illustrations without text.
6. Each individual illustration (without text) shall be 1800 X 1800 pixels.
7. Upon completion of the first draft of illustration, send it to your supervisor for review, so (s)he could give you some feedback.
8. All illustrations are subject to review by the editorial board.
9. Our expected turn-around time on a first draft of illustrations is two weeks; if you are unable to meet this deadline, please inform your supervisor.
