This was one of my first explorations into forging and hot metal. My initial goal was to forge weld the base but after some trial and error, I found that our little forge couldn't get hot enough. Instead, I ended up MIG welding the base

rebar is essentially mystery metal of mystery hardness which made it really difficult to know what temperature we needed to get to
None of the shop managers had any experience with forging so everything was trial and error + trusty ol' internet + intuition
