Self-driving cars are already in the making, and so a robotics company could add a robotic unfolding sweeper arm to the front. The arm would slide back under the car when not being used and basically have a broom head with a camera attached to a long metal stick that can pinpoint debris such as sticks or nails and sweep it off the road. We would also add technology to recognize potholes like the lidar sensor in the self driving cars under the car that will recognize cracks or holes in the road surface, then a filling chute that connects to a tub of the liquid like cold patch that would fill in the hole. The truck would be equipped with a slow sign and caution tape on the sides, so cars would know to go around it. It could send updates to a control center that would send help if the truck was broken or out of filling liquid, gas, or other.
Pros:
Can fix problems with more ingenuity than what robots are programed for
Can easily get called and go to fix whatever the people or community need. Whereas a robot would need to be programmed to do it.
Cons:
People are expensive to hire
People would not want to work in harsh weathers
Sometimes people get hurt from things that robots don’t mind
Robots would work more efficiently then people so companies might just purchase robots to clean roads and they might not need the crew of people.
Pros:
It does not need maintaining
A permanent solution
Cons:
It could erode during weather conditions such as flooding
Could be hard to make or install.
It could need expensive materials
