When do you use myDRE?
You've now both heard and seen what myDRE is. You have seen how you can work and collaborate on your research data in one or more workspaces. Now you might wonder: when exactly do you use myDRE?
We've have creates a quick decision tree that you can follow. Before we run through it, remember that myDRE is suited towards the analytical phase of your research. Each of the three questions on the left of the decision tree are individually good reasons for using myDRE. Answering one of them with a yes, means you should really consider myDRE as your solution:
Either because you want to work with external colleagues, and you're the one providing the IT system.
Or secondly, because you need more computing power than is available on your current computer. Do keep in mind that if you have lots of data, you should also consider the High Performance Compute.
Or lastly, because you need access to software or packages that you cannot currently install.
For advice about myDRE, and its suitability for your research project, you can always contact your division data manager and the Research Tooling team for advice.
What does the decision tree say about actual, practical use cases? Here, we already listed some good examples of what myDRE is currently being used for:
Multi-center studies;
Regular collaborations;
Working on Linux computers;
And computing with GPUs.
If you think that your use case would also benefit from myDRE, even though maybe it's not yet captured in the decision tree, please still feel free to also make use of the platform. Test it out, figure things out, and ask us to help when you're stuck. We are keen to learn from your experiences and to possibly adapt the guidelines on when to use myDRE.
