Hello, my name is Elizabeth Silvey and I am thrilled to be your child's science teacher this year! This is the start of my sixth year as a teacher. I graduated from Anderson University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. I also recently graduated from Liberty University with a Master of Arts degree. In my free time I enjoy curling up with a good book, writing, exploring new coffee shops, singing, or hiking. I am super excited to teach your child all about the great things related to science such as geology, weather, energy, sensory systems such as the brain, and more. Let's make the 2025-2026 school year the best year ever!!
Tips for being successful in science:
Study over your notes everyday (even if only for 10 minutes). Cramming information into your brain will not help you to actually remember it. You have to do it a little each day to retain the information.
Make note cards or a Quizlet deck (virtual notecard platform)--writing things down helps to put it into your long term memory!
Have your student teach you the material--this is super helpful because it helps to show gaps in what your student knows
Check out the additional resources that are located in Google classroom for extra help/ tips. Anything I find that might be helpful, I add to the resources throughout the year. If you find something, feel free to send it to me and I may add it as well.
Ask for help! I know it's scary to want to ask questions, but it is the only way I will know something is unclear to you. I'm here to help you do your best in school. If you get scared to speak up, you can always ask in an email. There are not any dumb questions!
