All lesson notes and assignments will be posted on Google Classroom. If you are absent, you will find specific instructions on any makeup work on Classroom.
Communication with students and parents is easy with this tool. You will automatically be added to my class on Dojo, but I am also available via email if that is your preference.
All usage of AI programs, such as ChatGPT, in 6th grade requires prior approval from the teacher. Before incorporating any AI tool into an assignment or activity, students must discuss their intent with the teacher. Plagiarism, even if AI-generated, is not acceptable. Any assessment and/or assignment is subject to a verbal review with the teacher. Students must be prepared to explain and discuss the content of their work without the contributions or assistance of AI. If a student cannot adequately represent their work, it will be assumed AI was utilized as a replacement for their learning, and the consequences will be subject to the teacher and administration’s discretion.
If you want to support our classroom, tissues, glue sticks, and pencils are always appreciated! If you wish to send something else, here is the Classroom wish list.
The best gift of all is for students to be prepared for school. Please check in with your child regularly to ensure they have the supplies they need.
Hi there! The 2025–26 school year marks my 12th year teaching English Language Arts at Southwood, which means I’ve spent over a decade trying to convince 6th graders that grammar is cool, and honestly, I'm still trying. In the afternoons, you’ll find me in the car line doing my best impression of an air traffic controller (minus the headset, but with plenty of dramatic arm waving).
I earned my Bachelor’s in English from Presbyterian College and my Master’s in English from Clemson University. My all-time favorite book is Peace Like a River by Leif Enger—ask me about it and I’ll try not to give you a full book report.
When I’m not teaching, I’m chasing after my energetic three-year-old daughter, rewatching Frozen, and attempting to finish a cup of coffee before it gets cold. I live with my husband and our tiny tornado, and I love them dearly, even when they interrupt my reading time.
This year, I’m thrilled to be sponsoring Southwood’s brand-new Junk Journal Club! If you love creativity, collecting odds and ends, or turning “trash” into treasure, this might be your new favorite place to hang out.
Check out the club flyer for more details, and keep an eye out—meeting dates and updates will be posted soon right here and in our school newsletter. Come make something beautifully messy with us!
