School Psychologist

My name is James Pegram, and I am the School Psychologist at McCants Middle School. I work closely with the School Counseling Department, Special Education teachers, and many other school teams to support students’ ability to learn and teachers’ ability to teach.

One important team I am a part of is our school’s MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) Team, or Intervention Team. MTSS is an intervention-based framework that uses data to help educators provide academic and behavioral strategies and interventions for students with various academic and/or social-emotional/behavioral needs. Our school’s intervention model also helps us identify students who would benefit from more intensive supports, such as special education services.

As McCant’s school psychologist, I help parents, administrators, and teachers decide if a psychoeducational evaluation is necessary in order to determine if a child has a disability that might warrant special education services. Once I have evaluated a student, I continue to work with teachers and parents to improve educational outcomes for those in special education, as well as for our regular-education students. I look forward to working with our students, parents, and teachers this school year!
