Ways to Refer
A child may refer themselves
A teacher/staff member may refer a student
A parent may refer his/her child
The Referral Process
Provides preventative services/ interventions to students needing support
Involves the school counselor collaborating with the student, family, and school personnel to develop solutions and support after a referral has been made.
How Referrals Make a Difference
Provides students with 1:1 support
Increases specificity of interventions/ supports and tailors them to student
Removes student from the situation or circumstance to discuss solutions
Reduces anxiety or pressure on student
Examples of Referrals
Concerns with attitude toward school
Concerns with academic growth
Concerns with social development and relationships with peers
Concerns with child's personal development
Concerns with reactions to changes within the family that may be effecting learning
To Set Up a Meeting:
Call the school counselor to set up an appointment at 403-2312
