LES School Counseling Program Mission Statement
The mission of the school counseling program at LES is to support students in regards to academics, social-emotional learning, and college and career readiness, with a focus on advocacy concerning connectedness, equity, and access for every student. All students have a voice, should be heard, and can succeed no matter what their future goals entail, especially with the support of a team who provides a safe and nurturing environment and opportunities tailored to the diverse needs and interests of our students.
LES School Counseling Program Vision
The students at La France Elementary School are critical thinkers and problem solvers possessing the necessary foundational skills to succeed and demonstrating important traits of Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, and Empathy (PRIDE). These skills prepare them for the challenging studies in reading, math, and career readiness that lie ahead. All students participate in a rigorous curriculum. A whole child approach to learning is implemented in efforts to cultivate ownership of learning and student growth supported by the comprehensive school counseling program. Our counseling program fosters a triad between school, family, and the community. As global citizens, our students thrive and positively impact our school and community.
LES School Counseling Program Belief Statements
I believe all students should have access to a high quality education and can achieve success in academics, social emotional learning, and career readiness.
I believe the school counselor’s role is to provide a data driven, developmentally appropriate school counseling program to meet the needs of all students through a Tier 1 curriculum, individual counseling and planning, small group counseling, and Tier 1, 2, and 3 interventions.
I believe that fostering student social and emotional learning and health will promote academic growth and future positive outcomes.
I believe the school counselor is an advocate for all students.
I believe the individual in charge of the school counseling program at LES is Kelly Gossett. She is the only school counselor, but works closely with others to plan, manage, and deliver this program to support students. She collaborates consistently with teachers, the leadership team, other school counselors in the district and outside and the mental health counselors at LES.
I believe to do what is best for children, the school counseling program must comply with the highest ethical standards based on the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counseling.
