I’m tired of watching TV. Tired of hearing the news And not doing anythingMe, ordinary school kid, sitting there, HelplessWatching those trees get slaughtered Watching those vivid green livesDie, explode Watching businessmen talk on and on“Cut them down, butcher them!” a living communityCut down the rainforest, too, and what about that garbage, boss?Dump it into the ocean, watch it clog in clumps, And that oil, isn't it like pretty black paint? scumming up the ocean“Thicker than paint, stickier than glue” whispers someoneSmoke twines and twists in the air, in the day, in the night, in the noon
On TVPeople yelling That climate change is a hoaxHow unfair that we must reduce Our energy, our gas, Our injections of poison smoke whenWho cares about the environment, it's all about Business
He talks as if he doesn’t know of the massacre of treesburnt branches, skinned arms, and skinned bodiesOr of the Icebergs that drip fat sad drops, drips and cries, cries and cries, in the starved airFlood waters scrub away everything, lives, homes, memories As temperatures pitch high, time speeding by
I am guilty, too Not of ignorance, but as a consumer The car in the driveway guiltily thrums with nervous oil, the glass shower drains heat, consuming energy After a long, long shower It's easy to forget, take for granted this world, its earth, resources, lifeThink that they’ll always be there But I want to fightMarch Fight march fight For the environment, for the trees, for our climate
Watching on TV, other people stepping upOrdinary teens like me, ordinary people But it’s hard to think of solutionsI don’t know how to make a bigger difference In my tiny suburban town I’m not brave enough, Too scared, too small Not brave enough
But I am just so sick of watching it all on TVHelpless
