This edition of Calliope, Amity Regional High School's art and literary magazine, is heavily influenced by the isolation and loneliness that students have felt during the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown. As a result, this edition also features two winners of the Sydney Cohen/Calliope award for fiction and poetry, respectively. This award was conceived of, and provided by, Sydney Cohen, '21 from her own first place award winnings in the annual Thornton Wilder Writing Competition. Sydney's award-winning story can be found here: http://www.hamdenlibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Toy-Soldiers.pdf
Sydney wanted to recognize the writing of two Amity students through a writing contest, the theme of which was ISOLATION: Experiences of Amity High School Students. Along with the editors of Calliope, Sydney chose the two winners.
The Sydney Cohen/Calliope award for poetry is awarded to Ian Glassman for his poem "--it's day 06"
The Sydney Cohen/Calliope award for fiction is awarded to Olivia Gross for her short story "Sharp Objects"
