Our partners at HMH are offering a 3-part Amira Practice Getting Started Series for all districts within the DOE. Amira is available to you at no cost through the remainder of the school year and is a chosen resource of the NYC DOE to drive reading acceleration. You can find dates/times and meeting links for your borough-specific Getting Started Series here: Amira Practice Series Schedule.
Dive into these asynchronous resources in advance of the trainings as a starting place to help you prepare your classrooms and students for success:
There are specific log on instructions in the FAQs to help you navigate from the TeachHub sign-on page to launching Amira. After you've set up Amira for the first time, review the video below for what the log-in process typically looks like for NYC educators.
What are the technical requirements?
All students need is an internet connection and laptop or iPad that meets the required specifications. Amira is a browser-based application, available 24/7 to students.
Headphones are not required, but recommended, especially when implementing in a classroom with many simultaneous users or younger readers.
How much time does it take to get started? What training is required?
The Amira program is an easy lift. Implementation support, device readiness, rostering, and training: everything is included at no charge, thanks to the NYC DOE’s funding. After a tech check, teachers participate in a ~1-hour training to prepare for launching Amira in their classrooms.
