Amira is 20+ years in the making. We’ve been partnering with different universities, health systems, and reading scientists around the world to develop a tool that not only accurately screens for dyslexia risk with 96% accuracy, but also listens for reading mastery and literacy skills, provides the right tutoring in an instantaneously setting, and provides you as the teachers the data and insights you need to provide targeted instruction your students and inform the next right instructional moves for your class.
Educators should always hold a high bar for EdTech and ensure solutions are proven and backed by results before they adopt. The graph above shows the effect size on reading growth produced by multiple studies. Zero represents the average reading growth a child makes in classrooms across the country. Take a look at the results of three different studies conducted to determine the impact on human tutoring vs. Amira.
Johns Hopkins looked at the top 10 human tutoring companies that provide tutors who read and practice with students. They had a .42 SD effect size on growth. They were growing a lot faster than the average.
In another study conducted by Columbia University Teachers College, research scientists looked at students in Savannah, GA who used Amira during the 2020-21 SY, and the effect size actually matched (and slightly surpassed) that of human tutoring. We saw this accelerated reading growth in less than a year.
Finally, Carnegie Mellon led a study over the course of a year for students that read with Amira for 30 minutes weekly for 1 year and had an effect size of .82, which is truly remarkable growth.
