AMHERST COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD

Salary and Fringe Benefit Program – Licensed Personnel

 The Amherst County School Board provides a competitive salary and fringe benefit program for all employees of the public school system.  A summary of these for licensed personnel is listed as follows:

 1.     Experience is the determining factor in establishing individual rates of pay.

2.     College tuition is supported through reimbursement at the rate not to exceed $465.00 per year.

3.     Professional development courses may be offered in the school division during the year through local colleges and universities. These courses are college credit courses, which may be counted towards license renewal and are offered at no cost to the employee. County sponsored courses do not reduce the allowance as set forth in item 2 above.

 4.     Graduate supplements are:

          (1) $430 annually for 9 semester hours of graduate credit

          (2) $858 annually for 18 semester hours of graduate credit

          (3) $3,512 for the master’s degree

          (4) $5,115 for the master’s plus doctorate 

 5.     Group Life Insurance is provided for all full-time employees and the Amherst County School Board pays the premium. The amount of insurance is twice the amount of the annual salary raised to the next higher one thousand dollars. The policy provides double payment in the event of accidental death. 

6.     The Virginia Retirement System provides a retirement program for all full-time public school personnel. VRS eligible employees pay 5% of their contracted gross monthly pay toward their Virginia Retirement System monthly contribution.

7.     A group health insurance plan is offered to all full-time employees. The School Board funds 80% of the cost of the employee's plan. Coverage for dependents is also available.

8.     Liability insurance coverage is provided for all employees and the Amherst County School Board pays the premium. Also, worker's compensation coverage is provided for all employees.

9.     Counseling services are available through the All Points Employee Assistance Program of Central Virginia. The Amherst County School Board provides this program to its employees at no cost.

 10.  Sick leave is granted on the basis of one (1) day for each month of employment, or 10 days for the regular 10-month contract (full-time employee). Sick leave, to a maximum of 90 days, may be transferred from other public school systems in Virginia.

 11.   Upon retirement from the Amherst County Public School System all personnel who have been employed in ACPS for a minimum of 5 consecutive years will be paid for unused sick leave, up to 100 days, earned in Amherst County at the rate of $25.00 per day.

 12.   Annual leave, or vacation, is provided for all 12-month employees. (Policy GCBD.)

 13.   Professional leave is on a request-grant basis.  When an employee requests permission to attend a professional growth conference, workshop, etc., and the request is approved, the time will not be counted against any leave program and part or all of the expenses may be reimbursed.

 14.   Two personal leave days are granted annually to full-time personnel.  A limit of 4 days may be carried forward each year; however, any days over four will be transferred to the employee's sick leave account. (Policy GCBD.)

 15.   Contracts are issued according to the Code of Virginia and the Regulations of the State Board of Education and the Amherst County School Board.

 16.    Direct deposit is mandatory for all employees.

 17.   Tax-sheltered annuities and other optional insurances and investment opportunities are available through payroll deduction.

 18.   Employees may elect to shelter funds for out-of-pocket medical expenses and dependent care from taxes through a Section 125 plan administered by American Fidelity.

 19.   All benefits are reviewed annually and are subject to change at the discretion of the Amherst County School Board.
