Electric Buses

Amherst County Public Schools began running two electric buses earlier this month! We would like to thank the Amherst County School Board, the Amherst County Board of Supervisors, and the staff at American Electric Power for the funding to make this possible. We appreciate the staff at Sonny Merryman for their partnership in providing these buses. We would also like to thank Dr. Wells, Dr. Hoden, Gary Roakes, and Rhonda Campbell and her staff, Pam Cash, Bea Campbell, Shari Hammett, and Bill Cox for their hard work to make this endeavor possible. We have been awarded an additional grant from AEP that will allow us to purchase a third electric bus, which is being built at this time. These buses provide zero emissions and noise pollution and a greater savings on maintenance and fuel costs. The addition of electric buses is exciting and will be a window to the future of student transportation! #TeamAmherst #ShowUpAmherst

ACPS Education Foundation - Virtual Student Showcase - Winter 2021

Each year, the ACPS Education Foundation hosts three fundraising events that directly support Amherst County teachers, students and classrooms (Student Showcase Luncheon, Annual Golf Tournament, Back-To-School Raffle). Due to COVID-19 restrictions that are in place this year, we are working with the ACHS Tech Club to bring the Student Showcase to your computer screen!

Our Student Showcase is an exciting opportunity for students and teachers to showcase their innovative classroom programs and projects that have been funded by the Education Foundation.

We are incredibly excited to announce that Amherst County High School has been named THE BEST PUBLIC SCHOOL in our area, by Lynchburg Living Magazine!

We are incredibly grateful and humbled by this accolade and so appreciative of the support that this community has shown us! Here at ACHS, we have a simple saying: INTENTIONAL EXCELLENCE. We believe that we will never be excellent by accident…we must be intentional to be excellent! We must strive for excellence to provide students with the education they need to succeed. Opportunity is everything and our amazing students deserve the opportunity to create the future they deserve.
