National Poetry Day

March 21 was World Poetry Day! Have your students tap into their creative writing skills as they create their own poems and then bring them to life with Tynker! Your students will love programming characters and watching them glide across the screen, while also reinforcing their understanding of simple events and delays, screen bounds, and advanced motion.   For your students to access this lesson, you must assign it.  Tynker works very much like Google and can even import a Google Classroom.  See you ITRT if you would like to do this project and need assistance.  It is only available for free until March 31st so act quickly!  Click the image above for more information.

Spelling Activity Box

This would make a great STEAM center that students could do in class or take home.  Click the image to access the page for more information.

Congratulations to Central Elementary for hosting its first Science Fair/STEAM Night.  They had over 120 people attending. Parents first mulled about browsing through their student's science fair projects displayed in the cafeteria.  Following that, they and their students played together all evening.  They were able to experience an escape room, play with robots, and use their engineering skills to build a sled to help the 3 Little Pigs escape from the Big Bad Wolf.  It was a fabulous night for all!

Be Aware!  The Ides of March bring a new focus on STEAM education!

State Superintendent Visits

On Friday, March 15, Virginia State Superintendent, Dr. James Lane, visited one of the Amherst County elementary schools.  Here he is pictured playing with a Dash robot in the STEAM lab.
