Section 1: Inquiry Question and Concept Exploration
Explanation of the guiding question or concept
Inquiry Statement: How can I use color, shape, and line to transform a flat surface into a dynamic, three-dimensional form?
Inquiry Writing: First, in terms of color, it is necessary to alter the palette to emphasize the presence of light and shadow on the disco ball, such as through the application of complementary and analogous colors. Secondly, the lines should emphasize the sphere's characteristics: narrow edges and a broad center.
Section 2: Connections
Cultural, historical, and artistic influences with critical evaluation.
The lighting in this piece is exceptionally well-executed, with warm yellow tones contrasting against the shadows of night to create a cozy atmosphere. The intricate details are also beautifully rendered, bringing the scene to life.
Section 3: Investigate
Visual evidence of material tests, alternate compositions, sketches.
Section 4: Create
Visual documentation of steps of creation
Day 1
Line drawing
Day 2
Start filling in the main color
Day 3
Blend blue, purple and green together
Day 4
Adding yellow and red to create a striking contrast
Sari Shryack's work inspired me in several ways, such as the colors and design of light and shadow, which helped me settle on blue as the primary color and incorporate yellow and orange for contrast. During the creative process, I encountered some imperfections, particularly in the fluidity of the lines when outlining. However, I believe the overall effect turned out quite well.
Section 5: Final Artwork
Title: The glow of the evening sun
Size: 29.5cm/29.5cm
Data of completion: 31/10/2025
Why: Because Shryack's work warmed my heart, I want to carry that warmth forward.
Section 6: Communicate and Reflect
Challenges, successes, and self-evaluation of how the artwork aligns with the inquiry question.
Reflection notes: While drawing the disco ball, I believe my color scheme worked well, using blue as the primary tone and accenting it with other colors. I also meticulously rendered the highlights and shadows, giving the entire piece a more three-dimensional effect. However, it lacked neatness: some colors extended beyond the grid lines, and the strokes weren't perfectly smooth. Moving forward, I should focus more on details while also letting my imagination run wild to create something even more perfect.
