Section 1: Inquiry Question and Concept Exploration
Explanation of the guiding question or concept
Inquiry Statement: How can perspective drawing techniques be used to invent a believable space that blends imagination with realism?
Writing: By applying the learned horizon lines, vanishing lines, and points, we can adjust the proportions of the image to achieve a sense of realism. At the same time, we need to unleash our imagination and combine three different photographs into a single drawing. Therefore, we need to merge the three images while adhering to the rules of perspective to create a work that is both creative and realistic.
Section 2: Connections
Cultural, historical, and artistic influences with critical evaluation.
The first video
The second video
David Hockney
The two photos were taken during a trip my friends and I took. The first reason that I chose these photos is that they conform to the standard one-point and two-point perspectives. Also, I think many walls can provide me with space to create different textures. I spent a long time struggling to combine these two photos because the second couldn't be seamlessly integrated into the first. Finally, I decided to divide the second one into two pieces and place them on both sides of the first one.
Section 3: Investigate
Visual evidence of material tests, alternate compositions, sketches.
Notes and Perspectives (day 1)
Texture Text
Before creating the final artwork, I tried to draw many different items and textures, experimenting to see which texture would be more suitable for my work. For example, I experimented with a lantern. I really liked the texture of it. However, since there wasn't enough space in my final paper to place it, if I made it smaller, the detailed patterns wouldn't be visible. So in the end, I had to give up on it.
Section 4: Create
Visual documentation of steps of creation
Day 1
Day 3
Day 2
Day 4
Most of the creative process went smoothly, but on the fourth day when the work was nearly completed, I thought there were too many blank areas in the picture, and I didn't know how to add details. After searching through a lot of materials, an image of the sky from one of the works gave me inspiration, so I incorporated the sky into the subsequent creation.
Section 5: Final Artwork
Title: Urban Life
Size: 23/30.5cm
Date of Completion: 26/3/2025
Section 6: Communicate and Reflect
Challenges, successes, and self-evaluation of how the artwork aligns with the inquiry question.
Reflection Notes: In this unit, I explored pen drawing and different perspectives, which made me learn many new and interesting drawing skills, to make the final artwork more realistic. During the drawing process, I pay closer attention to details than usual because I'm using only one color pen. After finishing my final work, I realized that this unit taught us how to build a bridge between reality and imagination.
