The criteria for the award of credit and the Amala competency framework can be used together to support the journey towards and the ultimate award of credit for a competency.
The criteria says that for a student to be awarded credit, they must meet the minimum assessment requirements for at least one competency related goal in the competency being assessed. The minimum requirements are outlined below:
There is evidence of the student completing a process in context, in an attempt to meet a particular competency related goal.
These criteria can then be applied to each competency. To do this, you should look at the framework and begin to think about the competency related goal. You don't really need to write it down, although that might help you organise and reflect. You can derive the goals from the competency description and/or the success indicator(s).
Let's look at an example for the competency: Identify and Frame Real-World Issues. We can rewrite the above indicators of developing expertise as follows, but using one of the success indicators / competency goals (Identifies Real World Problems) for this competency:
There is evidence of the student completing an inquiry in an attempt to identify real world problems in their own life and/or their community.
Try and do this for another competency yourself, and share with a facilitator or student.
