Community Service
Community Service
AVID is known for completing community service as part of the program. As we begin the new school year we will shift from community service to civic engagement. The goal of the school this year is to have a majority of the students attending Norte Vista to be civically engaged in some form or fashion through different programs or clubs that they are involved in.
What is the difference?
Community service is volunteer work done to give back to the community.
Civic Engagement is work that addresses specific needs of a community.
They are very similar in nature, but the goal of the program is to make the work of the students directly address needs in our community.
Please read the service requirements for the program located here.
Innerview recently recognized Norte Vista for having 135 students (a large portion of them AVID students) who have qualified for a National Community Service award. Our display with them can be found here and is embedded below.
The official Service Learning website for Norte Vista that shows the current projects that you can help with is found here. It can only be accessed with an alvordschools.net account.
Here are some of the projects our students have currently been working on in conjunction with our other groups working on civic engagement and service learning.
