Artist Statement
Mi declaracion
As a Mexican-American artist, I use acrylic paint, pencil, soft pastel, and charcoal, and printmaking as a way of expressing my feelings and healing. My art is a personal identity where I connect with my identity and tell stories that reflect the experiences of not only myself but also those within my community. My art is a way to show both self-discovery and recovery. I like to think of my art as a sanctuary- a space where I navigate the complexity of my identity as an artist that continues to grow. My intention overall through my pieces is to show healing, advocacy, and a way of expression for myself that others may relate to.
Grounded in my cultural heritage, my art is a vibrant celebration of resilience and a testament to the transformative power of creativity. Whether I'm using acrylic paint, pencil, or charcoal, each stroke tells a story of healing and self-discovery. While some pieces delve into the depths of my Mexican-American identity, others are playful explorations, created simply for the joy of artistic expression. For example, my acrylic pieces on canvas tell the story of not only myself but other struggling individuals within different communities as they depict struggle and perseverance through color and textures. Through my art, I strive to pave a path for others in my community to find solace, inspiration, and a sense of empowerment. It's a shared journey where creativity becomes a tool for healing and a source of collective strength
As I reflect on my artistic journey, it becomes clear that my creations are not just expressions on canvas; they are a bridge between self-discovery and communal healing. Looking forward, my goal as an artist is to continue nurturing this connection—whether through the meditative strokes of my brush or the playful dance of pencil on paper. I aspire to create an inclusive space in my future classroom where art is a source of joy, a mirror reflecting diverse narratives, and a catalyst for positive change within the communities I will be surrounded by. With each artwork, I aim to inspire others to embark on their journeys of healing and creative exploration. The canvas is my voice, and in its vibrant tapestry, I find not only personal growth but also hope to inspire the growth of youth to weave a brighter, more connected future through the universal language of art.
Some of my personal career experience so far has been working for WPCA, student observing at different schools, creating a museum exhibit for younger students, and currently working alongside Artists Working In Education as well as having my artwork exhibited at a Colectivo Coffee shop.
