A student example of this project using watercolor and different mixed media
Total Time Needed: 45 minutes
Procedures: (WI State Standard #7)
Steps for instruction (times):
15 minutes- time to work on letter to chosen character as well as the watercolor , collage, and other mixed media imagery on back of postcard.
15 minutes- time to decorate envelope with hot glue gun and beads, markers, and add stamp on with sponge and paint. Have students talk amongst each other about their post cards and evelopes as they work. __
5 minutes- clean up , give finished Magical Postcards to Ms. Lupe / have students place in my bin that I have available.
Closure: Give self-reflection sheet out to the students who are staying on task more than others and finishing more efficiently as was discussed with my on site cooperating teacher. Then those who may need additional time can receive it at the end as homework. This class is 50/50 with how on task students can be therefore I do still realistically expect more students to be done earlier then others and be prepared to turn the reflection sheet by the end of class time. I will summarize the overall lesson as they decorate their envelopes in my own words and exaplain that the goal is to not think of art as something stressful or as something that has to look a specific way in order to fix their artistic block/ motivation.
(WI Teacher Standard #8)
Strategies for students requiring additional assistance: (WI Teacher Standard #3) I will work with other students who need additional assistance 1-1 by talking to them on a more personal assistive manner to ensure that they complete the take home work if necessary. Allowing students to view my art work examples of their Post Card project and allowing them to feel the final result in order to spark their motivation. I plan on having different ways to combing the medias being offered to show different levels of achievement as a way to ease stress.
