This is a fraudulent communication, through emails, SMS messages, MMS, instant messaging, social networks, or even a phone call, where they try to steal personal and/or banking data. Cybercriminals try to trick you using excuses such as a promotional offer, friendship or job opportunities, or by pretending to be a known entity like a phone company. To avoid falling for this type of fraud, it is important to carefully and rigorously analyze all communications coming from a company or a person you don’t know. In both cases, typos, urgency (a promotion ending soon, a technical problem that needs immediate resolution, etc.), and external links are common.
If a company contacts you asking for any suspicious action, it is best not to interact. If in doubt, it is always recommended to call or write to the official contact of the company to make sure it’s not a fraud and check online to see if others have been affected by a similar scam.
