Hello! I’m am Dr. Mary Larscheid, one of the four school social workers at Albert Lea High School. I’ve been working in social work for almost 35 years, and I’m really passionate about helping students succeed. Here’s a little about my background: I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Psychology from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, in 1991. Then, I went on to get my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 1995, and later earned my Ph.D. from Capella University in 2004. I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in Minnesota, and also licensed as a School Social Worker through the Minnesota Department of Education.
Most of my career has focused on helping kids and teens. I’ve worked in both inpatient and outpatient mental health settings, and even coordinated programs for youth and men dealing with domestic violence and assault. For over 19 years, I’ve been teaching social work students at Walden University, and have been a school social worker since 1996.
I truly believe school social workers and mental health services are key to helping students thrive. My goal is to support you in becoming your best self, whether that’s through navigating personal challenges or excelling in school. My door is always open, so if you ever need someone to talk to, don’t hesitate to reach out!
~ Mary
