Hi, I'm Heather Leiste and I am one of the school social workers at Albert Lea High School. I have worked at the high school since 2012 and I have worked as a school social worker since 2006. I earned my Bachelor's of Social Work degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2001 and my Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities in 2006. I am licensed as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) through the Minnesota Board of Social Work. I am also licensed as a School Social Worker through the Minnesota Department of Education.
Albert Lea High School is fortunate to have multiple school social workers and is able to offer individual social work services to any student. A student may wish to see a social worker for a variety of reasons including but not limited to, concerns about self-esteem, coping skills, stress management, peer interactions, self-advocacy, and building resiliency. Students may be referred to the social worker by parents, teachers, staff, administration, or self.
Together, with the student and family, we strive to create a learning environment where students can grow not only academically, but also emotionally and socially. If you are struggling and need someone to talk to, please reach out to any of our school social workers. We look forward to meeting you and supporting you at Albert Lea High School.
