You wake up and find yourself in a dark and scary room with bars. You figure that this must be some kind of Puritan jail. "Well, I didn't learn about this in U.S. History class," you think to yourself as you slowly get up from the cold ground. You carefully rub your aching head where you got hit. You look for the watch - it's gone! How will you ever find out when the car is coming to take you back home!
You can tell that you are not alone in the jail. You turn to see three figures sitting in the darkness. As your eyes adjust to the darkness, you realize that there are three other prisoners with you in this jail. They introduce themselves to you as Tituba, Sarah Good, and Sarah Osborne.
You start talking with them and they begin to tell you about themselves.
Unfortunately for you, you have now been in jail for a long time. Tituba was taken from jail a few weeks ago and you aren't quite sure what has happened to her.
The month of February has passed and now it is March. You haven't heard anything from the time-traveling car and you are worried that your family doesn't know what has happened to you.
You are starting to think that you may be stuck in Puritan jail in 1692 for the rest of your life. Suddenly, life as a junior high school student doesn't seem that bad.
Soon, lots of people who have been accused of witchcraft start joining you in jail.
They have brought a map of Salem with them. This map shows all of the locations of people who have accused others of being witches, people who have been accused of being witches, and people who have defended those who have been accused.
Here is the map:
They show you the map and explain to you that the richest people in Salem live near the dark road at the bottom of the map.
As the days go by, people in the jail with you are taken to trial. They never come back. The rumor among the prisoners is that the accused witches are being hanged. You find out that the procedure for the trials goes something like this:
A member of the town accuses someone of being a witch
That person is arrested and is then brought to be questioned
The accused is questioned by town leaders - if they feel that the person is likely a witch, that person (like you) is thrown in jail
A trial is held - supernatural evidence is allowed in court
If the person is found guilty, they are hanged
The day finally comes for you to go to trial. You are brought before the judge who tells you that you have been accused of being a witch.
He asks you what you have to say for yourself. What are you going to do? What are you going to say?
Here are your options:
