Sarah Osborn tells you of how she fell in love with a wealthy man from Salem Village by the name of Robert Prince. Robert Prince owned a 150-acre farm next to his brother-in-law’s farm. His brother-in-law was Captain John Putnam, a member of the influential Putnam family from Salem Village. Sarah and Robert had three children: two boys and a girl.
Sarah tells you of how her husband Robert died in 1674. The law did not allow Sarah to inherit the land – instead, she was to manage the land until her two sons were old enough to take care of it. They were only six and two-years-old when their father died. Sarah remarried Alexander Osborne, a former indentured servant, and the two of them tried to get legal control of the farm from Sarah’s two sons. The Putnam family got involved in this legal battle defending the two boys’ legal rights to the farm. Sarah had also not attended church for years due to a long illness.
