Dance 1


Dance 1 is a beginning level artistic dance class aimed for sophomores/juniors. Students in Dance 1 will develop a foundation in the skills of technique, strength, flexibility, alignment, endurance, coordination, and performance qualities (focus, confidence, artistic intent). Students will have the opportunity to explore various genres of movement, as well as incorporate the elements of dance (body, energy, space, and time) into their own movement vocabulary.

Participation in a semester-end concert is required.

Dance 2


Dance 2 is an intermediate level artistic dance class that builds on the curriculum presented in Dance 1. Students in Dance 2 will strengthen their foundation in the skills of technique, strength, flexibility, alignment, endurance, coordination, and performance qualities (focus, confidence, artistic intent). Students will have the opportunity to study choreographic principles, as well as incorporate the elements of dance (body, energy, space, and time) into their own movement vocabulary

Participation in a semester-end concert is required.

Dance 3


Dance 3 is an advanced level artistic dance class aimed for juniors/seniors. Students in Dance 3 will develop a foundation in the skills of technique, strength, flexibility, alignment, endurance, coordination, and performance qualities (focus, confidence, artistic intent). Students will have the opportunity to explore dance history and the place of dance in the world and current events today, as well as continue developing their own personal choreographic voice and approach.

Participation in semester-end concerts is required.

Social Dance


Beginning/intermediate ballroom dance class. Students will increase in technical mastery and performance artistry throughout the year as they experience many different styles of partner dance forms including ballroom and world dance. Students will also study the historical roots of ballroom styles and analyze their place in contemporary culture. Participation in a semester-end concert is required.

Orem Dance Company


Orem Dance Company (ODC) is a full-year, advanced level dance company. Company members will gain broadened perspectives, as well as increase in technical mastery, choreographic and improvisational skill, and performance artistry. ODC performs at a variety of events throughout the year–including halftimes, assemblies, and dance concerts–and has the opportunity to attend festivals, workshops, and competitions throughout the year.

Students must be committed to attending extra-curricular rehearsals and performances, which are required as part of the grade for the class. 

Participation in performances, including semester-end concerts, is required.


Orem Ballroom Team


Orem Ballroom Team is a full-year dance team with a focus on developing technique and performance skills. Team members will increase in technical mastery, choreographic skill, and performance artistry throughout the year. Students will experience many different styles of Ballroom dance, and develop the understanding and skills necessary for concert and performance production. In addition, competition team members will have the opportunity to work with guest choreographers and compete in well-established Ballroom competitions.

OBT performs at a variety of events throughout the year, including halftimes, assemblies, competitions, and dance concerts. Students must be committed to attending extra-curricular rehearsals and performances, which are required as part of the grade for this class.

Yoga


Beginning/Intermediate yoga class. Students will develop skills in uniting body, mind, and spirit while experiencing different forms of yoga, which will lead to increased flexibility, muscular strength, endurance, and breath control. Students will also focus on experiencing mindfulness, stress-reduction, relaxation, and meditation, and applying principles that will improve self-esteem, discipline, overall well-being, and connection with others.

Hip Hop & Street Dance

Hip Hop & Street Dance is a beginning level movement class that focuses on street forms of dance and their integral place in contemporary culture. Students in this class will develop a foundation in basic body control skills of technique, strength, flexibility, alignment, endurance, and coordination. Students will also begin to develop in rhythm, performance, and choreographic skills as they study the history and influences of urban dance forms, strengthen 21st century skills, and explore connections to other curricular areas.

Participation in a semester-end concert is required.
