About Ms. Alley

Hello!

My name is Chelsea Alley, and I’m the Director of Dance here at Orem High. My dance expertise includes modern-contemporary dance, ballet, ballroom, world/folk, musical theater, street dance forms, integrated creative dance, and choreography.

In 2013, I received my degree in K-12 Dance Education from Brigham Young University and went on to teach for three years in the Provo School District, while also serving on the Utah Dance Education (UDEO) board. I transferred to Orem High and Alpine School District at the end of the 2016-2017 school year. I love Orem High and feel grateful each day that I get to work in my dream job!

Throughout my life, dance has offered me a sense of vitality and joy, served as a form of healing therapy, and helped me process my identity and my place in the world. I hope that, in my classes, each of my students may be able to experience similar things.

I teach dance because I believe in it as an art form. Lifelong learning happens through rigorous and joyful discovery, and I believe dance is uniquely capable of providing that experience. I know how very powerful dance can be in cultivating the whole human—body and mind and soul. I’m here to train dance artists, yes… but my goal is to focus on using dance as a vehicle to help train students in the skills and character traits they need to survive and thrive in an ever-changing world. We’re here to practice creativity, discipline, problem solving, collaboration, and innovation. We’re here to grow!

Students, if you’ll keep an open mind and invest yourself in discovery and the creative process, I believe we will do amazing things together.

Sincerely,

Ms. Alley
