**You need to submit the Completed Checklist, found in Step 8, at the bottom of this page, in order to get credit for this writing assignment.
You will be making an alphabet book with your opinion and reasons why your mom should be "Mother of the Year." You will give at least one reason and an example for each letter of the alphabet.
On the first page of this ABC book, you will state your opinion about why your mom deserves to be Mother of the Year. On the next 26 pages, you will write the letters of the alphabet, one per page. You will use both the front and back of each page. For each letter of the alphabet, you will give one reason, and an example of that reason, to support your opinion. Your opinion will be restated at the end of the book. After the writing is complete, you will illustrate each page. You need to show details of what you have written, in your pictures. There is an example of each step below.
Make sure you use neat handwriting, write in complete sentences, and include capitals and punctuation marks. DO NOT RUSH THROUGH IT. *Remember this is a gift for your mom for Mother's Day, too!
A to Z Organizer for gathering and keeping track of your ideas
List of words for each letter of the alphabet to give you ideas of what to write
Blank ABC Book
"Mother of the Year" Cover Page
"All About Mom" page to go with the book (optional)
Think about your opinion: "There are many reasons why my mom deserves to be Mother of the Year."
Use the ABC word list, to find a word starting with the Letter A that describes your mom (or think of your own word).
Use the A to Z Organizer, to help you think of a reason and an example for the letter A.
*** This does not have to be full sentences yet, just a list. (See the Example Organizer picture.)
Repeat these steps for each letter of the alphabet, until your organizer is complete.
Each letter of the alphabet will go in the box on its own page in the book. Before you begin, make sure the book is the right direction, so the front page will open to the left. **Be careful to not skip any letters or pages. There are exactly enough pages for the opinion page, all the letters of the alphabet, and the closing page. Following the instructions below, write all the letters of the alphabet before you begin writing anything else! If you make a mistake it's much easier to fix before you have written anything else.
Your letters can be plain or as fancy and decorative as you want.
On the 1st page, write "A to Z" in the box
On the back of the first page, the 2nd page, write the letter A in the box, then B on the next page, to the right. Turn the page, and on the back of the B page you will write C, then D on the next page, to the right. Keep going like this until you have written all the letters in the alphabet.
There will be 1 blank page left at the very back of the book. If you have more than one page or run out of pages before letters, go back and see if you skipped any pages or wrote a letter twice. If the book didn't have the correct amount of pages, please contact me and I will get you a new one.
1st Page: A to Z
Letters in Boxes
On the first page of the book, write the following opinion:
"There are many reasons why my mom deserves to be Mother of the Year. Here is a list from A to Z."
Then, use your organizer to help write a reason for each letter of the alphabet and an example to support your reason on each page.
Be sure to use nice, neat handwriting.
Also be sure to write in complete sentences and use capitals and punctuation.
Examples of sentences
On the last page, (the back of the letter Z) draw a picture of you and your mom in the letter box.
Restate your opinion by writing:
"Finally, my mother deserves to be Mother of the Year because......"
Finish the sentence however you'd like, with one final reason.
Restate Opinion Example
Starting with the 1st page, draw colorful, detailed pictures on each page.
Pictures should match the text on each page.
Remember to include details and color neatly.
Examples of Pictures
