Writing

Third graders in the state of Utah are expected to write at least a paragraph by the end of the school year. The rubric below is a general idea of what is expected for each paragraph. We also have specific rubrics for informative and opinion writing that we will use for grading purposes that directly align to each state standard for writing. Please encourage your child to write paragraphs that include: a topic sentence, 3-5 facts or details, transition words (first, next, then, because, however, etc), and a summary or concluding sentence.
