Ms. Pickard

Hello and welcome to my class!

Hello Parents and Guardians!

We have had a great first few weeks of class!! I give a shout out to all you great parents! I can tell how awesome you are by how awesome all your kiddos are!

First a great big Thank You! for those who sent supplies in for the class. We have a lot of tissue, hand sanitizer, dry erase markers, and wipes. I can't thank you all enough for those supplies.

The first couple of weeks of school we have been covering Narrative Writing. One very important thing I have found that will help your kiddos with writing will be to have them tell you about their day. Just get them talking. Have them describe things in detail. For example, if they say "I saw a cat on the way to school" ask them to describe it. What did it look like? What was it doing? We're working on making Super Sentences. The sentence would be more like -"I saw a gorgeous black and white cat on the way to school that seemed to be pouncing on something." The more you get them talking and describing things in detail, I believe it will help them with their writing. Also, please be reading with them in the evening. Our main homework for 3rd grade is reading. Please read at least 20 minutes a night. If you can have them read out loud to you that would be fabulous!

For math, we have been covering Place Value, Expanded Form, Word Form and Addition. Working with you students on simple addition, like 8+9=, will help them with the larger problems. Students should be able to do these simple problems from memory. We have quit a few still counting on their fingers.

We are able to have volunteers come to class as long as they wear a mask and do not bring younger siblings with them. We want to keep our kiddos safe so if you are able to volunteer please follow our strict Covid rules. I will be happy to go over those with you if you do not know what they are. Please let me know if you are able to volunteer. Track time (both A & B) is when I could really use volunteers the most working with students reading.

We are having a reflections contest. Please watch the video below that will explain what it is and how to enter.
