This week for our Specialty Olympics, you are listening to different anthems of the world. For your music assignment, interview someone in your family--parent or grand-parent--and have them tell you where your ancestors came from. See if you can find a folk song from that country and learn it. You may be surprised to find that you already know one. For example, if you have French ancestors, you already know the French folk song, "Are You Sleeping?" I have ancestors from France, Germany, Scotland & England, so I have many songs I could learn. Hello Manila,
Wow! I really miss seeing all of my students! The other night I dreamed that I was back in the classroom and teaching. I was so happy. I'm sure it's getting harder to stay positive, and maybe you and your family are driving each other crazy--Hang in there! This weeks activity can be for the whole family. If there are multiple Manila students in your family, explore this songbook online together. The more you listen, the more you will like what you hear. Then sing, sing, sing. That will make us all happier. I am going to join you this week, and do the assignment myself. I will be over here in Saratoga Springs singing my heart out!

Hello Manila,
It was so much fun to see so many of you during our parade on Friday. Thank you for all of your beautiful signs and wonderful smiles. I haven't heard from many of you and would love to hear more. I'm sure homeschool is hard and being stuck at home can get boring. My assignments in music are meant t bring some happiness and fun into your life right now. I have some assignments for grade levels, but a lot can be done for any age. Do some of these with your family. They have the time!

Timbre is the unique sound an instrument or a voice makes. Sometimes called "the color" of music. Do you remember when I had you all close your eyes in class and then I touched someone on the head to say something. All of you could immediately identify the person by the timbre of their voice. It's unique quality.
