Currently there is no specific GPA score requirement. However, a recommendation letter is required from a representative of the home university stating the applicant's academic performance in the Japanese language.
Some classes are taught in English, but they are limited.
Therefore, it is not possible to fulfil registration requirements by taking only English-taught (EMI) classes.
Candidates should meet ONE or more of the following criteria:
●At least two semesters (or equivalent) of formal Japanese language studies
●JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) N4 or above
●A combined score of 80 or more on the TTBJ (Tsukuba Test-Battery of Japanese) online tests: SPOT90 and Grammar90

All candidates must be able to read and write Hiragana and Katakana, and be able to recognize basic Kanji.
Those who have no background in learning Japanese are NOT eligible to apply.

The applicant must be physically and mentally healthy and able to live abroad without problems.
Any exchange student is able to stay at HSU International House which is located close to Hiroshima city centre.
Monthly rent is ¥31,300, and moving in fee is ¥29,800
National Health Insurance: people who stay in Japan more than 3 months must enroll in the National Health Insurance System.
A monthly payment of ¥2,000 covers 70% of medical care costs.
By paying about ¥2,500 per year, international students can receive medical assistance in their native language.

We provide each student a ¥50,000 stipend per month. We also provide a one-off payment of ¥50,000 to each student at the beginning of their first term to help them when they start to live and study abroad.
Students are expected to contribute to events, presentations, and other such activities at HSU during their stay.
