The Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council (RMTLC) contracted with Allyson Kelley and Associates PLLC (AKA) in January 2024 to extend the Feasibility Study. Phase 2 of the review includes interviews with elders and an online survey with State MMRC members.
At the end of Phase 2 (July 2024) we know more about...
● How to include Native people and communities in the MMRC process.
● What needs to happen next, and what to do with the information we collected. We know more about how to prevent deaths in Tribal communities using the Forest of Resilience concept.
- Dr. Dewey Ertz
Dr. Dewey Ertz and Christie Farmer conducted interviews with 12 elders from Little Shell, Crow, Northern Cheyenne, Blackfeet, and Fort Peck in April 2024. Interviews highlight elder perspectives about the importance of culture and family connections to prevent maternal deaths.
Eleven state MMRC committee members completed a Qualtrics survey in March 2024 about their experiences on the MMRC and needs regarding maternal mortality in Montana and Wyoming. Members feel it's important to include Tribal representation in the MMRC process, offer community-based prevention, and share culturally tailored resources for dealing with difficult topics, and MMRC case reviews.
Interview and survey data presented on this page will be used by RMTLC and CDC to inform future work.
We are still learning. We are grateful.
